Snackin’ in the Big Apple
NYC is honestly heaven on earth for the health conscious gal. There are options GALORE you guys! Given that my boyfriend lives in NYC, I frequent the city often, and am always dragging him ALL around the city to enjoy the delish and PP-approved eats 😉
Here is a roundup for you guys on all of my favorite, must-go spots for your next trip to NYC:
- What to order to drink: Ginger Turmeric Matcha Latte with Oat Milk. All of the other milks they have on hand are sweetened. I ALWAYS ask if the almond milk is sweetened, because about 90 percent of the time unfortunately coffee shop almond mills are – and they are HIGH in sugar, no bueno. BTW, did you guys know that Matcha promotes brain health, wards off cancer, preserves heart health and more?! Check out more info on this Women’s Health Article.
- What to order to eat: An extra delish sweet treat, the Turmeric Matcha soft serve is unREAL. Also the vibes in this place are to die for. You’ll love!!
- What to order to drink: I’m a BIG fan of their shots – I order one not on the menu and request a Turmeric, Ginger & Lemon shot. All of the other shots have apple juice in them, which again (you guessed it) really ups the sugar content.
- Second drink: cup o joe!! PS – they have unsweetened almond milk for your coffee – what’s not to love about that?!
PS – if you do order a green juice here, get one that’s all veggies or sub out the apple in the juice for cucumber or celery. I love the Prince of Green, sub pineapple for Celery.
- What to order for an app: MARKET VEGETABLE PLATE! You guys, this place is honestly my IDEAL restaurant. Anything you order in this section is absolutely delish. One of my faves are the Parmesan crusted artichoke (highest veggie in fiber!)
- What to order to eat: Greek salad with grilled chicken, hold the feta, dressing on the side. I always order dressings on the side and dip my fork – HUGE calorie saver.
- What to order to eat: Maya’s Breakfast Bowl with poached eggs OR the chicken kabob. For the breakfast bowl, I ask them to hold the quinoa and add extra kale for less carbs & more fiber 🙂 same with the kabobs – hold the couscous, add kale!
- What to order to eat: The real question is what to not order?! Everything is amazing!! I’m a HUGE fan of spice so Iloved the Bucatini Arrabiata w zucchini noodles and we shared the Chicken Salad for some protein. The roasted cauliflower with chili flakes were also to die for! Also – a carafe of (chilled!) red wine is only $15 – my kind of place!
- What to order to drink: This place is SO CUTE and they serve their fresh pressed juices in the most adorable mini milk jugs. I’m a huge fan of the Cucumber & Ginger juice.
- What to order to eat: Shrimp Avocado Salad, dressing on the side. It’s to DIE for!
- What to order to eat: First of all, this is worth it just for the cute exterior. I’m a big fan of the Kale Salad and the Wild Coho Salmon. You ALWAYS want to make sure the fish you order is wild vs. farm raised, and they serve this with cauliflower puree couscous – what’s not to love?!
- What to start with: First of all, the name is hilarious. Second of all – their buffalo cauliflower is a must. I convinced my BF to share those vs hot wings and he wasn’t disappointed (all about the healthy substitutes!!)
- What to order to eat: Skirt Steak House Salad – it’s amazing. Dressing on the side, of course, but I don’t eat steak often so when I see a good steak salad, I will usually get that and satisfy my craving 🙂
Did I give ya enough ground to cover?! Ha! Another tip of advice – a majority of the restaurants above don’t take reservations (must be a hip NYC thing), so we’ve found that eating at awkward times works well – heading in around 4ish for a late lunch/early dinner is fab and you’ll get right in. OR get there early if you’re trying to do breakfast. Now, get going, you’ve got some eating to do 😉
